Saving Money On a Front Brake Job.
The final portion of our problems with front brakes we'll discuss your vehicle pulling to either left or right when the brake pedal is applied. There are a couple of things which could be the culprit to this problem. 1.Sticking Piston in the caliper. 2.Restricted front brake hose not allowing the brake fluid to reach both wheels equally. 3.And once again frozen slides. Problem 1 is fixed either by replacing or rebuilding the caliper. Always ask for the price of doing each operation. Rebuilding a front caliper of the single piston design is actually a simple process. An over haul kit consists of only one piston seal and one dust boot seal. Remember to keep in mine the "list" price syndrome. Make the call before excepting the garages price. Reasons the caliper must be replaced are as follows: 1.Cracked Piston 2.Broken brake fluid bleeder screw(this happens when the bleeder becomes so rusted that it almost becomes part of the caliper.) This bleeder screw is imperative for removing air in the event that te systems needs to be opened. i.e. Replacing the caliper or replacing the front brake hose because of a restriction. Last off, we have to talk about frozen slides. There's not much to say except it is extremely important to make sure they are lubed liberally. Before I forget, just a little info on rotors. Just because a grinding action has occured does not mean the rotor needs to be replaced. Every rotor that is manufactured is required by law to have a minimum thickness stamped on it. So in the event that the garage does try to sell you a rotor on your vehicle with only 24,000 miles on it, you'll know that the rotor should have plenty of meat on it and that they should only need to be turned down!
